Borders. Ripped. Families. Apart.

Ripped:

“hand-made typeface representing borders between countries”

Working in pairs, we were given the word border as our space and community as our concept. Both terms were contradictory in meaning. The border is a line separating two things, such as countries, for instance, and community means a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common. With a border, there is no community, and within a community, there is no border.

typeface concept:

These borders broke and ripped families apart, but they also made them stronger and braver. The plain sheet of paper symbolises human fragility; however, the more scrunched up the paper gets, the stronger it becomes. Therefore, we humans tend to gain power and strength the more crunched up we get. So, both words are opposites to each other.
